BLOGMAS DAY 12: Golden Globes Nominations!

Posted on 08:09 by smith
Blogmas Day 12!

Morning beauties! Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and I'm a little upset about this list. I love award season, but I am slightly disappointed about some of the snubs this year. Check out the nominees, and some massive complaining below!

Best Motion Picture-- Drama
12 Years a Slave
Captain Phillips
Gravity
Philomena
Rush

Really no surprise here! These were obviously the best films this year... Though, Rush was a bit of surprise. My bet is on 12 Years a Slave for cleaning up the award circuit.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-- Drama
Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine
Sandra Bullock, Gravity
Judi Dench, Philomena
Emma Thompson, Saving Mr. Banks
Kate Winslet, Labor Day

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-- Drama
Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years a Slave
Idris Elba, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
Tom Hanks, Captain Phillips
Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
Robert Redford, All Is Lost

Hold on one minute! Excuse me Hollywood Foreign Press, but you have forgotten someone very important on this list! His name is Benedict Cumberbatch; I'm sure you missed it because it is a hard one to spell. But really! All jokes aside, where is Cumberbatch's name?! His performance in The Fifth Estate was absolutely flawless! How could he not even get a nomination? I feel Benedict got snubbed because the film wasn't that great... But, still his performance as Assange was, to me, the best performance of the year. I am literally heart broken! And, what with the SAG nominations out yesterday, it's looking bleak for Benedict this season. NO!

But besides the worst snub in the history of snubs, Chiwetel Ejiofor is a definite much deserved nomination; my vote is going for him. Both Chiwetel and Idris Elba are double nominees (rightfully, too).

Best Motion Picture-- Comedy or Musical
American Hustle
Her
Inside Llewyn Davis
Nebraska
The Wolf of Wall Street

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-- Comedy or Musical
Christian Bale, American Hustle
Bruce Dern, Nebraska
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Wolf of Wall Street
Oscar Isaac, Inside Llewyn Davis
Joaquin Phoenix, Her

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-- Comedy or Musical
Amy Adams, American Hustle
Julie Delpy, Before Midnight
Greta Gerwig, Francis Ha
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Enough Said
Meryl Streep, August: Osage County

Best Animated Feature Film
The Croods
Despicable Me 2
Frozen

Best Foreign Language Film
Blue is the Warmest Color
The Great Beauty
The Hunt
The Past
The Wind Rises

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Sally Hawkins, Blue Jasmine
Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle
Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave
Julia Roberts, August: Osage County
June Squibb, Nebraska

Now, this category is going to be a tight race! Lawrence, Nyong'o, and Roberts! All absolutely perfect women! As much as I love Jennifer, I think Lupita is going to take home the gold! Her performance in 12 Years a Slave was absolutely devastating. She definitely deserves every award this season! Plus, all these acting nominations for August: Osage County is making me super excited for the film!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Barkhad Abdi, Captain Phillips
Daniel Bruel, Rush
(The only mention of The Fifth Estate found on this list... I'm so depressed...)
Bradley Cooper, American Hustle
Michael Fassbender, 12 Years a Slave
Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club

Hands down, Michael Fassbender. I'm calling it!

Best Director-- Motion Picture
Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity
Paul Greengrass, Captain Phillips
Steven McQueen, 12 Years a Slave
Alexander Payne, Nebraska
David O. Russel, American Hustle

Ooh, this is another tight group! I LOVE McQueen, but Cuaron did something absolutely amazing with Gravity! I would hope that McQueen would win with his fantastic, beautiful, artful directing, but I don't know... This one is going to be tough. Yet, I also love O. Russle! Ugh, this one is going to be hard to choose.

Best Screenplay-- Motion Picture
Spike Jonze, Her
Bob Nelson, Nebraska
Jeff Pope and Steven Coogan, Philomena
John Ridley, 12 Years a Slave
Eric Warren Singer and David O. Russle, American Hustle

Best Original Score-- Motion Picture
Alex Ebert, All Is Lost
Ales Heffes, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom
Steven Price, Gravity
John Williams, The Book Thief
Hans Zimmer, 12 Years a Slave

I love both John Williams and Hans Zimmer... Gosh! I could never be on a voting committee.. But, if I were, Cumberbatch would have been the first on this list.

Best Original Song-- Motion Picture
Atlas, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Let It Go, Frozen
Ordinary Love, Mandela: A Long Walk To Freedom
Please Mr. Kennedy, Inside Llewyn Davis
Sweeter Than Fiction, One Chance

Best Television Series-- Drama
Breaking Bad
Downton Abbey
The Good Wife
House of Cards
Masters of Sex

Hannibal got an unfortunate snub. All cast and crew. Very disappointing because Hannibal is a genuinely fantastic show.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-- Drama
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black
Taylor Schilling, Orange is the New Black
Kerry Washington, Scandal
Robin Wright, House of Cards

MASLANY! After being snubbed at the Emmy's, it is so great that she's finally getting recognized! Absolutely fantastic actress!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-- Drama
Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Liev Schriber, Ray Donovan
Michael Sheen, Masters of Sex
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards
James Spader, The Blacklist

Best Television Series-- Comedy or Musical
The Big Bang Theory
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Girls
Modern Family
Parks and Recreation

Same shows every year... I think this is a sign we need different shows...

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-- Comedy or Musical
Zooey Deschanel, New Girl
Lena Dunham, Girls
Edie Flaco, Nurse Jackie
Julia Louis- Dreyfus, Veep
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-- Comedy or Musical
Jason Bateman, Arrested Development
Don Cheadle, House of Lies
Michael J. Fox, The Michael J. Fox Show
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
American Horror Story: Coven
Behind the Candelabra
Dancing on the Edge
Top of the Lake
White Queen

Unfortunately, Sherlock did make the cut, obviously because it didn't get put together in time for consideration... Not because it's not award worthy. We ALL know it's award worthy. Shame though...
And, no nod for The Hallow Crown! What is this?! I officially give up!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Helena Bonham Carter, Burton and Taylor
Rebecca Ferguson, The White Queen
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story: Coven
Helen Mirren, Phil Spector
Elisabeth Moss, Top of the Lake

Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini- Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Matt Damon, Behind the Candelabra
Michael Douglas, Behind the Candelabra
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dancing on the Edge
Idris Elba, Luther
Al Pacino, Phil Spector

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Jacqueline Bisset, Dancing on the Edge
Janet McTeer, White Queen
Hayden Panettiere, Nashville
Monica Potter, Parenthood
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Josh Charles, The Good Wife
Rob Lowe, Behind the Candelabra
Arron Paul, Breaking Bad
Corey Stoll, House of Cards
Jon Voight, Ray Donovan

Phew! This is a long post! Sorry! As you can tell, I'm a bit upset about the many snubs this season (CUMBERBATCH!). This is going to be quite a sad award season...

Regardless, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the Golden Globes this year so it is sure to be a riot! Last years show as so funny I almost died! The award show airs on January 12th... But there's more! I  am going to be live blogging the show! Yay! So we can sit here, and complain about how we don't get to see the Cumberbabe at all the whole night. It's going to be fun! Make sure to check back here on January 12th for some award show fun!
