Fashion Review | The Met Gala (2014)

Posted on 13:39 by smith
Happy Mother's Day!

Last Monday night, The Met Gala took place in New York City. The Met Gala is a fashionista's biggest night! It's the night designers display their best works, and for us to fawn over the art of dress-making. In honor of revolutionary British designer, Charles James, this years theme was a white tie event. Some strayed far from the theme, and some where on point, but there's no denying there we some great dresses at this year's Met Gala. Here are my favorite looks from the 2014 Met Gala.

The Theme Keepers

Karen Elson
Zac Posen

This is hands down my favorite dress all night! I need to wear this dress! I love '50s fashion, and this dress screams 1950s Debutante Princess! The color is absolutely stunning, and the high neckline is classic. Zac Posen is the king of ball gowns, and this one does not disappoint!

Karolina Kurkova
Marchesa

Another stunning ball gown maker, Marchesa never fails to make dresses that classy, striking, and beautiful. The tier work on this dress is simply outstanding. I love the bodice structure, and the print is simple and beautiful. This is definitely a showstopper piece.

Karlie Kloss
Oscar de la Renta

Karlie Kloss could wear a paper bag and still look gorgeous, but this dress is no paper bag. I love the simplicity of the design because it allows the texture to get the main focus. This dress is so absolutely beautiful! I love the simple accessorizing, and her hair and makeup look stunning.

Emmy Rossum
Carolina Herrera

I love this dress! Yellow is not a color that looks good on many people, but Emmy has no problem pulling it off. Much like the de la Renta dress above, the print of this dress is the main attraction. I love the color scheme of purple and yellow, and the floral is perfect for spring.

Benedict Cumberbatch
Ralph Lauren

Oh, what a surprise. Benedict Cumberbatch has made my list. If this is not the epitome of an Englishman, then I don't know what is! Benedict looks like he has just come right from a posh tea with the Queen. His tux is gorgeous and is the perfect fit. And, I love the little touch of a pocket watch to tie the whole look together. He looks like a true gentlemen. And can we talk about his new hair color? It is oh, so gorgeous!

The Rebels

Lupita Nyong'o
Prada

I love love love this! Lupita Nyong'o has one of the absolute best stylist in the business; she always looks amazing! I love the African feel to this outfit. Lupita is definitely channeling her roots here. The green is also a stunning color on her skin, and that clutch is to die for!

Leighton Meester
Pucci

I'm not sure if this would classify are "non-themed," but it gorgeous either way. I love the texture of this dress; it's very 1940s jazz club. I also love the sleeves, something you don't see a lot of on the red carpet, and the deep plug is still classy.

Beyonce
Givenchy

I saw a text post on Tumblr that said, "Beyonce came dressed for funeral becuase she's killing everyone else's outfits." And that she is. I adore this Gothic chic look. This look is very Morticia Addams. I love the way the skirt drapes, and the bead work is stunning. But what I love most is the head piece; we didn't see much head wear this year.

Double the Power

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy
Oscar de la Renta

Hugh Dancy is just so beautiful. I am like obsessed with him. These two make an absolutely stunning couple. Firstly, I am in love this Oscar de la Renta dress. The velvet bodice is super beautiful, and the maroon with the baby pink is gorgeous. Secondly, that tux fits Hugh perfectly. And, I am a sucker for a spiffing bow tie.

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
Thakoon

Now, I'm not one to go all crazy for Hollywood couples, but Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are my favorite couple ever... You have to admit, they are adorable together. I'm not really that crazy for Emma's outfit. I think it's pretty. But I put it in here for her hair and makeup. I love the loose, effortless braid. And her light makeup simply emphasizes her natural beauty.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
Gucci Premiere

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds define old Hollywood Glamour with their look. I mean, Blake looks like she just stepped right out of a 1920s silent film; she looks gorgeous! One, I love her hair and makeup. Two, the color of that dress looks stunning on her (I have noticed a pale pink trend). Three, the train is impeccable. Plus, is that a velvet suit I spot on Mr. Reynolds? I do love velvet.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Vintage Chanel Couture

Oh my God! I adore these coats/ dresses... You know I have a coat obsession; I need these now! These two just look like stronger, powerful, chic women in these Chanel dresses. Honestly, I can't even describe how much I love these looks! I love the military style dress the most (and it's navy blue... Of course I love it). Plus, their makeup is stunning; the natural look really helps to emphasize these gorgeous dresses.
