New York Fun Day 1 | The Cripple of Inishmaan and The Tony Awards!

Posted on 15:32 by smith
Hello My Darlings!

On Sunday, I popped up to New York City for an overnight stay. Me and my lovely mother went up to see the gorgeous Daniel Radcliffe in the Cripple of Inishmaan on Broadway. It was an absolutely beautiful day, and the city was bustling with activity!

Firstly, we took a stroll around midtown just to pass time before the show. We came across the Puerto Rico day parade, which was massive! It seemed the whole city had come out to celebrate Puerto Rico’s day! We went to a little diner just around the corner from the Cort Theater for lunch.

When the time finally arrived for the show to start, I was bubbling with excitement! I couldn’t have been more excited to see Daniel live again, and I was definitely looking forward to this hilarious show. I had third row seats (woot woot!), and what with the Cort being a rather small theater, my seat was practically on the stage! Yes, I got to see those baby blues up close!

The Cripple of Inishmaan takes place on the Isle of Man in the 1930s. When a Hollywood film crew arrives on a neighboring Irish island, the locals of Inishmaan seek out the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at becoming movie stars. But it Cripple Billy, a young man with the most unfortunate luck, who wants to make his dreams a reality.

I absolutely loved this show! It was funny, it was shocking, it was heart breaking and heartwarming. The characters are definitely the ones who sell this show. From Billy’s adoptive Aunties, and the passive aggressive Helen, each character has their own set of quirks that make them loveable… and hateable… Is that a word?

Anyways, I would definitely recommend this show to anyone. The Irish accents may be a little hard for some of you to understand, but the cast does do a nice job enunciating. Michael Grandage does an outstanding job with the directing, and the script is hilarious.

Everyone in the cast was outstanding… This definitely was an ensemble show. Although Daniel Radcliffe’s face is on the Marquee, it’s the entire cast that brings this show to life. But I must say, Daniel was absolutely outstanding as Cripple Billy! I am a huge advocate of Daniel’s, and I honestly want to see him succeed as a respected actor. I think in this role he really showed off what he is made of. He put everything, emotional and physically (definitely physically… How is his whole body not broken by now?!) into this role! I do applaud you, kind sir!

Unfortunately, I did not get to meet Daniel after the show (… One day, Daniel…. We will meet one day… And we will become best friends!) because he had to zoom over to Radio City for the Tony Awards. But, he did do something that I found to be absolutely incredible! Since he knew he couldn’t meet fans after the show, he sent out signed playbills and photos to the people waiting at the stage door. How sweet is that?! Just a small jester like that may seem like nothing to him, but it means the world to me! Honestly, Daniel Radcliffe is my favorite person on the entire planet. No one will ever be able to convince me that he is a bad person.

If you have been following me for a while, you know of my infinite love of award shows! I was super stoked to find out our theater tickets were for the same day as the Tonys! Although we didn’t attend the show ($300 for one ticket… that is a bit crazy, isn’t it), we did wait outside Radio City to see the stars arrive. I wasn’t in the best spot, but I did get a few snaps of some of the stars. Most importantly, Brian Cranston and, of course, Daniel.

You could literally only see Daniel for a split second before he was engulfed into a crowd of people. I mean, he literally disappeared. Short people problems, I suppose.

After the red carpet, we went to Times Square to attend the Tonys viewing party. This was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. I am a massive lover of theater, and to watch the Tonys surrounded by people who love theater even more than me was awesome. The atmosphere at the viewing party was awesome. Everyone was so involved in the show; it was like being inside Radio City.

After a Daniel Radcliffe infested day (anyone who knows me knows that he really takes a toll on me), we headed back to our hotel for a much need night sleep.
